BMW R27 Powerplant
Air cooled 250 cc Single cylinder
When
the engine is started it idles smoothly. When cold, no rattling or knocking noises can be heard. Within tolerance valve train clearances and lubrication is assured. Due to quite running operation, this power plant appears to have no obvious
mechanical issues. When running at idle with the rear wheel off the ground, I
operated the clutch and shifted down into first gear and then up into second
there was a light clunk upon shifts as the clutch is not fully disengaging. The
transmission made no unusual noises and the shaft drive line quietly powered the rear
wheel. I performed this operation several times and the shift lever responded
appropriately and firmly. The clutch seems to be the issue. The transmission turns
quietly as does the shaft drive to the rear wheel. There appears to be no issues at low speed during no load operation.
