Quinn is an
Interprovincial Journeyman with a BC Weld “A” ticket holding PWP-7 and
PWP-10 pressure pipe certifications. His favorite process is stick welding. He
grew up in Lantzville and started his working career as a commercial salmon
fisherman traveling the Pacific Ocean for nine seasons as far north as Alaska.
He graduated from Brentwood College in Mill Bay and studied sciences at the University of Victoria. He was re-trained
by the government in 1998 as a Weldor. Working in oil field
construction and plant maintenance, Quinn gained experience with contractors and served
as the owners’ representative. This allowed him to travel Canada from coast to
coast. He has helped build over $4 billion worth of industrial
infrastructure projects
in four Canadian Provinces. He enjoys the challenges of working within a team
environment and developing solutions. After the birth of his daughter,
now 8, the choice to leave life on the road behind was simple. Quinn has taken pride assisting with student learning in the VIU Welding Department since 2013. He is the welding school safety representative and
serves on the Trades and Technology occupational health and safety committee. He currently is working hard to study adult education skills. A personal
learning plan guilds his professional development. Sponsored by
the Union, He is enrolled in the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program at Vancouver Community College. Quinn was
elected President of his daughter's elementary school PAC last year after being a member at
large for two years. His biggest success was the prevention of the facilities plan closer of the school in June 2016. Most recently, He was nominated for, then elected 2nd Vice President CUPE local 1858.
